Watched You Break was written at the start of 2018. At the time i was stuck in a feedback loop of writing pretty bad folk music. I was challenged by Simon Todkill (great pal/collaborator/producer) to write something with a bit more energy; something that you could dance to. Fortunately i was listening to a lot of The Cure’s Disintegration and LCD Soundsystem’s latest American Dream, which was very helpful in collating some of my ideas with texture and movement. Lyrically the song speaks of relationship breakdowns and navigating that murkiness in the wake. The song was recorded with Todkill at The Pool Studios in London with drums and percussion performed by Joe Clegg (Ellie Goulding), mixed by Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Belle and Sebastian at Castle Of Doom Glasgow and mastered by Frank Arkwright (Arcade Fire, New Order) at Abbey Road Studios London.
